Community Input
Together, ITD and the City of McCall have engaged in community outreach, including a public meeting in August 2025, to introduce the project, share concept designs, and gather community feedback. The following themes summarize what we heard from the 111 submitted comments:
Project direction
-
Expressed support for moving SH-55 through traffic, particularly large trucks, from downtown to Deinhard Lane and Boydstun Street.
-
Others questioned whether the exchange would change travel patterns, how the new route would be enforced, and whether the benefits justify the cost.
Traffic and congestion
-
Supported reducing downtown congestion and directing through traffic and large trucks away from the downtown core.
-
Concerns included seasonal traffic, future growth, regional travel, and whether the proposed improvements would successfully direct drivers to the new route.
-
Asked that the Deinhard-Boydstun corridor safely accommodate trucks through appropriate pavement, turning space, and winter maintenance.
Safety and access
-
Raised concerns about increased traffic and vehicle speeds along Deinhard Lane and Boydstun Street and requested safer access to neighborhoods, side streets, businesses, and individual properties.
-
Suggested improvements included lower speeds, turn lanes, signals, roundabouts, and enforcement.
-
Other concerns included curves, roadway grades, limited visibility, winter conditions, truck noise, and unsecured loads.
Walking, biking, and rolling
-
Requested continuous sidewalks, bike lanes, or separated multi-use pathways along both corridors.
-
Comments expressed a preference for facilities separated from vehicle traffic and connected to McCall’s existing pathway network.
-
Safer crossings, snow removal, and year-round maintenance were also identified as important considerations.
Other considerations
-
Identified potential effects on parking, right of way, businesses, adjacent properties, wildlife, and community noise.
-
Requested consideration of a route farther outside McCall’s developed areas.
